Child beggars, flies, and New Delhi

I stepped out of the hotel this morning, and my senses were assaulted by so many sights, sounds, and smells. It is virtually indescribable, at least beyond my powers of description.

Beggars follow you for blocks. Children hold up fingerless hands as if to say "Look! I have no fingers, give me money." I am told that people will cut off the fingers of children to increase their begging income potential.

It becomes a moral crisis. You can't give to all of them. There's so many. Even when you do, that doesn't stop them asking for more. It's so hard to say "no". Especially if your drinking something as you walk down the street and children ask you for your drink instead of money.

Also, there is the constant attack of merchants selling - anything. It's rather like being swarmed by flies, which also happens at the same time.

There are no garbage cans here. Garbage just goes on the street where the dogs and cows eat it.
