My first bus ride in India

I decided to go north before it got too cold, and then maybe swing around India clockwise.

I headed north out of New Delhi on a train. It was my first train ride in India. I rode second class. It was just fine.

I was going north to a place called Chandigarh. I met a young man on the bus who was very kind and told me that it would be very difficult find a hotel in Chandigarh because of the tenis tournament.

Tenis tournament?!?!!?

This was when I realized I should be a little more savy in choosing my destinations. This kind man and his friends tried for a couple hours to find a hotel for me and then before I knew it, they put me on a bus to Shimla, and I headed into the mountains.

This bus ride was great. After a short while I was almost the only person on the bus. I stretched out along the seat at the back, and fell asleep. Sure, the bus ride was a little bumpy, but I thought, "If this is what bus rides are like in India, I'm going to have no trouble"

Boy, was I wrong.

Later I realized there were so many people coming in, and almost nobody leaving, that the bus was bound to be empty. That was the last time I saw an empty bus in India.
