I saw what looked like a shark fin ahead of us
We're still in the harbour this a.m. Perhaps I made it sound like a peaceful night sleeping out on the boat, but I don't think I mentioned the mossies. They are every where and always worse in the evenings.
We sailed out to Manly, which was roughly an hour away, to pick up some ice for the esky (in Canadian terms=cooler). I got to steer the boat. Not much to it really since it was a matter of pushing or pulling the rudders. The water was busy, but since we were not a motorized vessel and heading up wind, we had the right of way. After arriving in Manly and dropping the anchor right near the beach, Kristal and I hopped off into knee deep water and headed for the stores. Ahhh, the life of a boatsperson.
Back on the boat, roughly 2:30 pm we were heading back to Botany Bay. Kristal's grandmother and uncles who live in Blakehurst, live on Botany Bay. Supposedly the ocean was calm, but let me tell you there was a lot of up and down motion and not a lot of wind. My stomach was not pleased. Whenever I stood up, I felt like I was drunk (I wasn't honest!). How could anyone live on a boat? I went below to sleep. Three hours later I emerged. We were 'floating'--there was no wind and we weren't even half way there. Apparently I missed a shark, with a black fin, swimming around the back of the boat.
It was getting on six o'clock and the sea was coming alive. Rick had the tinney tied to the boat with the motor going. I was out on the trampoline with Kristal and feeling much better. We saw poisonous bluebottle jelly fish and Rick claims he saw a flying fish, but he was the only one. I saw what looked like a shark fin ahead of us. It was grey and zig zagging madly. It disappeared when I went to grab my camera. Apparently it could've been a dolphin--it just didn't seem to swim like a dolphin. Let's just say it was a nice little reality check of the dangers lurking in the waters. Seven hours later, we arrived safe and sound at Elizabeth's home (Kristal's grandmother).
