It almost makes it pointless to shower...

Kristal and I caught a bus to Canberra via Murray Bus Co. It was a AUS$ 19, 4 hour ride. Canberra is Australia's capital. It is not a very big city, and has too many grey buildings. We stayed at Victor Lodge. It is by far the best hostel that I've stayed in. For $17 a night, we shared a room with a sink and 3 other girls, the bathrooms and kitchen were clean, the dishes were washed for us, and breakfast was included. Breakfast was coffee/tea/juice, toast, cereal, yogurt and fruit--nothing to complain about!
Jan 5, we did all of our sight seeing. The new parliament building, Telstra tower, the Regatta, the High Court and the Australian National Gallery. One of the bonuses today was that most of these buildings were air conditions. Yes, we were sweating in 37 degree temperatures. It almost makes it pointless to shower.
We had a tour of the new parliament building which is roughly 10 years old. The Telstra tower allowed us to view Canberra from about 800m above sea level. Half the city is city, where as the other half resembles the Okanagan in B.C. At the Regatta we explored some of the original designs for the city. The High Court, similar to the supreme court of Canada, had three court rooms, was large and very deserted. The Australian National Gallery was so big, that we nearly go lost in it. Unfortunately, neither Kristal or I were able to appreciate the art enough to enjoy it much.
Back at the hostel, I ran into the three girls from Halifax that I shared a room with in Coogee, my first couple of night in Oz! They have been working in Canberra for 2 mos. Turns out, they also plan to head west for Perth some time in February to look for work.
Jan 6 was just much too hot (37 again) to do much. We caught an evening bus to Melbourne. It was 9 hours and $41 via Greyhound.
