a small white package being exchanged for some money!?!?
Kristal and I arrived at 6:30 am. It was cold and raining. We managed to find a tram that was going towards the hostel we were to stay at. The Enfield in St. Kilda. We were tired and grumpy. The hostel was a bit run down and the office was dark with spinning lights. All we wanted were beds, and we slept till the afternoon. As a general observation, most of the people in the hostel are farrel (rebels, hippy like) and have different interests I would say. I was in the office after dinner to witness a small white package being exchanged for some money. . .hmmm
Kristal and I agreed to book a tour to Phllip Is and the Penguin Parade. It is a $75 duck truck tour. It includes up to 3 nights accomodation (at Amaroo park in a dorm), a penguin parade guided tour, island tour: koalas, pelicans, great surf beaches, 2 cooked meals and a half day bike hire. The travel agent warned us that they were mixed dorms and asked us what kind of men we wanted in our room. Well, thank goodness Kristal was quick and replied tall muscly men. I'm still a little thick to the ozzie humour. We asked about what there was to do in Melbourne in the eve. He told us about the different areas of the city, the pubs or we could watch the prostitutes. St. Kilda is a red light area. He warned us not to stand and watch them too long. There goes that ozzie humour again.
Now that I am paying for my food again, I find that I am rather frugal. I'll buy canned foods, or something for $1-2 that I can zap in the microwave. Popular foods to date; tuna, beans, potatoes, carrots, bread, apples and oranges. I've even been to the pub and drank nothing but pop! Although I do have the option to work while I'm in Australia, I feel that if I can live better (working or not) by cutting my trip short a couple of months, I will. That is instead of trying to get the most out of my one year valid open ticket.
