Puerto Escondido

I decided to learn to surf in Puerto Escondido, the premier surf destination on the west coast of North America.
Ouch.
A word of advice: Don't learn to surf in the premier surf destination on the west coast of North America.
This means BIG waves. Really BIG waves.
I co-rented the board with an English guy. I was only a little luckier, as a walked away without leaking any blood. It was only luck that I got away with minor bruises.
The problem is while you are learning, you want to ride the smaller waves, but if you hang out where the smaller waves break, you get pummelled by the white wash of the 6, 7, and even 8 foot waves.
I'm taking today to sit in a hammock and maybe tommorrow I'll have another go. There is a beach here with smaller waves.
