La Rio Fortuna

After coming down from our hike to Cerro Chato crater, we stopped to visit the waterfall (la catarata). We made the descent down some steep steps to the base of la catarata and saw that, on the other side of the falls, tourists were happily splashing around in the water. Here, we took off our boots and stuck our feet in for a nice cool bath!

We finished up our day pretty much in time for sunset. So, on our way home, we stopped at La Catarata Lodge for some water and went back to our own lodge to shower before dinner, a plato vegetariano -- steamed veggies, mashed potatoes, plantains, black beans and rice -- prepared by the kind folks back at La Catarata Lodge. The food was good (as it was the previous night), but I much preferred the casados of the night before.

So far, all the ticos we have encountered have been extremely helpful and polite...and the sights have been breathtaking.
