Mount Athos monks community
Athos.The easterly prong of the Chalkidiki peninsula,with its dense woods,steep slopes,rocky shores and its monasteries which together make up Agion Oros(the Holy mountain).
There is no comparable phenomenon elsewhwre in the world.Nowhere else are so many prayers offered up to the heaven each day as from corner of the earth.
Looking down from above,from the hallowed skies of Athos,the holy community appearseven more impressive and imposing.
For only thus can every monastery seen in its entirety,set in the landscape which surrounds it.
And there is only one word which can udequately describe the feelings of the onlooker upon confronting these images.Awe!
